Artist's Description
1965 photograph depicting the removal of the RKO Keith's Theater sign at 539 Washington Street in Boston, Massachusetts. The old movie theater operated first as the B. F. Keith memorial Theatre in 1928. In 1929, the theater was operated by RKO theatres and called RKO Keith's and was in business until 1965. The same year, the Sack Theater company took over the property and renamed it the Savoy Theater. This closed in 1980 and was taken over by Sarah Caldwell's Opera Company. Today the site is the home to the Boston Opera House.
