Description
1921 poster commemorating the first anniversary of the Czechoslovakian Sokol Organization of America held in Chicago, Illinois. The ' Sokol Movement ' began in Prague during the mid 19th century and was primarily a youth sports and gymnastics organization. The founders believed the organizations would serve as physical, moral and intellectual training for the nation. After being disbanded at the start of WWI, Czechs who emigrated to the United States continued the tradition of the Sokol movements with a total of thirteen organizations at its peak. The first gathering of Chicago was held in 1920.
